The formation of the MacKay Choristers was inspired by Janet Kalbfleisch, then the president of the MacKay Centre for Seniors. In 1983 Irla Stewart was named the first director and 16 members came together to form a choir. Over the years, the 16 became upwards of 70 under the inspired direction of Irla Stewart, Mary Hearn, Kathleen King Martin and currently, Linda Street. We have had, as well, the good fortune to be accompanied by many fine musicians, and Deborah Bailey is now our current piano accompanist.
In 2013 we celebrated our 30th Anniversary. We take great pride in our longevity and our continuity of offering enjoyment to our audiences. Over the years the Choristers have been actively involved in providing quality entertainment locally and regionally at Canada Day celebrations, two concerts a year with other choral groups and bands. We regularly sing at venues throughout Huron County and region. Our members come from Bayfield, Clinton, Goderich and Kincardine.
One of our more upscale events is a Cabaret produced every 2-3 years, and includes not only fine entertainment by the Choristers, but also showcases the individual and small-group talent our choir possesses.
Our signature piece is a very beautiful composition Say It with a Song composed for us in 1993 by the noted composers Don Besig and Nancy Price.
The most important fact about our choir is that we are a very friendly, welcoming group of people over 55 who love to sing. No auditions are required. We're about voices coming together in 4-part harmony for our pleasure and for that of our audiences.
So this Welcome Page on our website is precisely that: a Welcome to MacKay Choristers. Now that you know a little bit about us, please think about coming out to a rehearsal or two see if you would like to join us. We have many exciting adventures in the works and September and February are our start-up times. If you love to sing... we are just waiting for you!
